Vintage Cars and Sprint Cars Share the Show at I-70 Odessa, MO (August 1, 2007) – The I-70 Speedway Sprint Cars returned to I-70 Speedway as well as the Cars from the Show Me Vintage Racing Association, for another great night of racing on the D shaped dirt track. In addition, a Powder Puff race was held for several of the gals who travel with the Vintage Cars. “It was another awesome sprint cars show”, commented Brad McDonald, Owner of I-70 Speedway. “We have had a different winner each time the sprint cars have been here and the vintage guys always put on a good show”, concluded McDonald.
The sprint cars qualified through two heat races with the first 6 positions determined by results of a six lap pole dash. Phil Heavelow won the pole dash in his #44 sprinter, followed by #77 John Klabunde, 88 Chad Tye, # 94 Michael Brown, 24 Allen Billings and the 36L of Joe Larkin. Heavelow stopped at the start/finish line for the coin toss to determine a straight up or inverted start for those 6 pole dash cars. The result of the toss was an invert. Joe Larkin in his #36 led from green flag to the checkered winning his first feature at I-70 this season. Following Larkin was the 44 of Phil Heavelow, #77 John Klabunde, the 24 of Allen Billings, # 94 Michael Brown, the 85 of Christi Hoenshell, #12 Ryan Rector, the d1 of Barry Lamb, #88 Chad Tye, the 21 of Tony Amoroso, # 65 Chris Parkinson and the 82 of Stephon Brown.
The Show Me Vintage Racing cars qualified for their feature event, through t heat races. The #3b of Alan Broers took the checkered flag in front of the field and also became the first 2 time winner at I-70, this season. A three way battle for second ended up with the 4x of Bob Shryer followed by the #1 Brian Strong and the 7 of Mickey Fleehart. 5th place was the 77 of Dale Reese followed by #11 Kenny Price, the 7t of Craig Kent, # 11m Mark Pierce, the 52 of Jack Tanner, # 33m Rick Pelky, the 14 of Ron Lutes and the #28 Mickie Cook.
The Show Me Vintage Car Powder Puff was won by Teri Rumiser in the #28. Chasing Rumiser for second was Debbie Barta in the 3B, Debbie Reese in the 77 and Christy Shepard in the #7. A post report from the pits indicates that all the gals had fun but none were using this race to launch a racing career.
Racing return to the dirt track at I-70 Speedway next Saturday night, when the Midwest Outlaw Lightning Sprints attack the 3/8th mile speed plant. Hot Laps on the dirt track begin at 8:00 with racing action beginning at 9:00. Pit Gates open on Saturday at 4:00; Admission Gates open at 5:00. Adult admission price for Saturday is $12.00 with Children 6-11 admitted for $5.00. As always Children 5 and under are Free.
